MEDIA RELEASE

GOVERNMENT MUST RULE OUT UNION CONTROL OF MIGRANT WORKERS

The Albanese Government must today rule out the ACTU’s demand that migrant workers are given an automatic trade union induction upon arrival in Australia.

How the union movement wants to dominate and control both the Labor Party and Australia is becoming more evident every day.

It is disturbing to see the demands being made by the ACTU in their recently released Jobs Summit Series – Paper 2.

On page 5 of the paper the ACTU clearly sets out an outrageous plan to control migrants coming into Australia.

The ACTU demands that migrant workers coming to Australia receive an “on-arrival induction from a representative of the relevant unions and/or peak union body with information about their workplace rights and give them the opportunity to join the union”.

This is massive overreach by the ACTU and the Albanese Government should immediately rule out considering any such proposal.

With private sector union membership at 10% of the workforce, the ACTU has given up trying to recruit new members and is leaning on the Albanese Government to change the law to help them.

The ACTU effectively wants control at our borders by being one of the first points of contact for migrant workers.

The ACTU also demands that an increase in the number of permanent migration places to 200,000 should be conditional on all of their 17 recommendations being implemented.

It is very clear the ACTU is going to stand over this Government and make demands at the Jobs Summit.

From everything we have seen so far from the Albanese Government they will likely capitulate to these and other outrageous union demands.
