Michaelia, why are you here today?

Senator Cash

Because the Jewish community’s greatest fear was realised one week ago today. Their cries for help, their pleas for action to the Albanese government over the last two years fell on deaf ears. What happened on Sunday, the culture of appeasement and excuses by the Albanese government, is now a national shame. The least the Prime Minister of Australia, who has failed to take real responsibility for what occurred, the least he could now do, a week later for the Jewish community and all Australians, is immediately call a Royal Commission. This type of massacre where 15 people died – this was a religious massacre. Jewish people slaughtered on Bondi Beach while celebrating Hanukkah deserves nothing less than a Royal Commission. And like so many across Australia, I also now call on our Prime Minister do the right thing, stand up, confront Australians and say to them, I will instigate a Royal Commission into the Bondi massacre. The Jewish community, but more than that, Australians deserve nothing less.

You mentioned in your speech. There’s so much talk of antisemitism lately, and you think the language should almost change slightly to call it more what it is.

Senator Cash Let’s talk in plain English. This is Jew hate. There are people in Australia whose sole mission is to kill Jews. It is Jew hate, nothing more and nothing less. And in the great country of Australia, where our forebears died for our freedoms, our freedom to worship, let’s be clear, it is Jew hate, and it must be eradicated from our great country once and for all. Australia is better than this. It has been let down by the Albanese government, who chose appeasement and excuses over prosecution and action. But Australians will now find their voice. We will proudly stand alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters, and we will claim back the Australia that was shattered one week ago today. Thanks, guys.
