ALBANESE GOVERNMENT WON’T JETTISON NATURE POSITIVE LAWS
The Albanese Labor Government today voted against a Coalition motion that would have torpedoed for good the controversial anti-Western Australian Nature Positive laws.
Labor teamed up with the Greens to vote down the motion which would have removed the current Nature Positive Bills from the Senate notice paper.
The motion further called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to guarantee that the legislation will never be returned to Parliament.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Michaelia Cash said it is obvious the Albanese Government want to bring this Bill back after the election.
“Their vote today is further proof this anti-Western Australian, anti-mining Bill will be brought back by Labor if they are re-elected,’’ Senator Cash said.
“The fact they are already teaming up with the Greens on a vote on this Bill does not augur well for Western Australia or our world leading mining industry,’’ she said.
“These laws will be even more diabolical if Labor is elected in a minority government with the Greens and Teals like Kate Chaney,’’ Senator Cash said.
“Under a re-elected Albanese Government, teal independents like Kate Chaney and the Australian Greens have confirmed their intent to make these terrible laws even worse. As history has shown, in a minority Labor Government situation, Mr Albanese will give the Greens everything they want.” she said.
Separate from the Coalition motion, Labor moved its own motion to discharge the laws from the notice paper.
The Labor motion leaves it open for them to bring the laws back to the Parliament before or after the election.
“Labor is not fooling anyone. The backlash in WA was so bad they withdrew the laws this week but we know they want to bring them back,’’ Senator Cash said.
“Resources Minister Madeleine King refused to rule out bringing these LAWS back when she was asked twice on Sky News on Monday,’’ she said.
“The only way to ensure these damaging laws will not come back is by voting for the Dutton Coalition at the election,’’ Senator Cash said.
Senator Cash highlighted that these laws would not only hurt the mining and agricultural sectors but will devastate all Western Australian families.
“It is estimated that Mr Albanese’s nature positive / mining negative laws will increase the costs of housing by 10.6 per cent and increase electricity prices by 38%. This would be a disaster for Western Australian families during a cost of living crisis.” Senator Cash said.
“A vote for any Labor candidate and their extreme ‘nature positive / mining negative’ agenda at the next Federal election is a vote for these higher housing and electricity prices.” Senator Cash said.
