WESTERN AUSTRALIA BETRAYED BY ALBANESE AS NATURE POSITIVE, MINING NEGATIVE LAWS BACK ON AGENDA

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has betrayed Western Australia by bringing back his government’s mining industry damaging Nature Positive laws.

The Albanese Labor Government has put the Bill on a list of bills to be debated in the Parliamentary sitting fortnight beginning next Tuesday.

Shadow Attorney-General Senator Michaelia Cash said: “Mr Albanese has duped Western Australians over the Nature Positive, Mining Negative laws. It is a betrayal of breath-taking proportions,’’

“Mr Albanese was happy to take credit for taking the laws off the table late last year but that was just a sneaky smokescreen that has now been exposed,’’ Senator Cash said.

Labor Premier Roger Cook has made it clear these laws will damage Western Australia’s mining industry, cost jobs and threaten future projects in our State.

“The Nature Positive, Mining Negative laws are clearly disastrous for Western Australia and the revenue cash cow that is our world leading mining and resources industry,’’ Senator Cash said.

The mining industry had made it very clear that these laws, whether they contain a climate trigger or not, will be a major blow to WA’s economy.

“This legislation will mean delays and cost blow outs for major mining projects across Australia but particularly here in Western Australia,’’ Senator Cash said.

“Mr Albanese has been warned that these laws are bad for Western Australia’s mining sector but his government just won’t drop them,’’ she said.

“Mr Albanese is very good at pretending he supports Western Australia and our mining sector but that is all just an act,’’ she said.

“This proves once again that Western Australian voters should be very sceptical about anything Mr Albanese says,’’ Senator Cash said.

Shadow Minister for Environment, Fisheries and Forestry Senator Jonathon Duniam said: “The Prime Minister is walking both sides of the street by saying that he supports mining whilst also having Nature Positive laws set to be voted on in the Parliament, ready to steamroll WA’s resources industry.” “The Prime Minister needs to rule out a deal with the Greens on Nature Positive. Anything less will show, yet again, that this government is not on the side of our most prominent resources state.”
