NATURE POSITIVE REPORT SHOULD BE RELEASED PUBLICLY

A report that shows the disastrous impacts of the Albanese Labor Government’s Nature Positive laws on the cost of housing and energy should be released publicly.

Media reports say the report commissioned by Western Australian business and mining industry representative groups shows WA’s wholesale electricity prices would surge 38 per cent, capacity would fall 2.6 per cent and coal-fired power generation would increase 244 per cent.

The media reports also said the report shows the Nature Positive laws would bring additional red tape that could affect residential house prices. In Perth’s north, for example, the report estimated residential lots would increase in cost by up to 10.6 per cent.

Shadow Attorney-General Senator Michaelia Cash said: “Western Australians deserve to see this report in full and we call on it to be released immediately.’’

“It is clear the Albanese Government won’t give us the full story about the effects of their Nature Positive-Mining Negative laws so if there is independent information out there it would be best if it was made public,’’ she said.

“We’ve always known that the Nature Positive laws are a devastating blow to WA’s mining industry but there is now credible information that the effects of these laws could directly impact residential land developments and the energy market,’’ Senator Cash said.

“The Albanese Government should come clean about the true impost these laws will place on Australians already reeling from the cost of living crisis,’’ she said.

“Mr Albanese needs to tell Western Australians just how much more they will pay for their electricity and housing because of his Nature Positive-Mining Negative laws,’’ Senator Cash said.

“It is quite clear this sneaky Government is hiding the true effects of these laws,’’ she said.

Shadow Minister for Environment, Fisheries and Forestry Senator Jonathon Duniam said: “The government must immediately release the four pages of blacked-out terms of their deal with the Greens and the crossbench.”

“The Prime Minister can’t tell Western Australians that he won’t do a deal with the Greens on nature positive but then secretly seek that same deal in eastern Australia. He is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. The only sensible way forward is to dump Labor’s nature positive, mining negative laws.” “The nature positive laws will heavily impact Australians. This is why the full report must be released so people can understand exactly what’s at stake for them, and for our country.”
